Slumdog millionare

Slumdog millionaire the award winning movie was released on the 9th January 2009 it won 8 oscars and made a staggering $5141,319,195 by May of the same year.

Slumdog millionaire is a heart wrenching story about a boy called Jamal (played by Dev Patel) who is a contestant on the Indian who wants to be a millionaire. The film starts off with the questioning of Jamal after successfully winning 20, million rupees the police are suspicious of him cheating as he was a poor orphan boy with no education. As the officer asks more questions about how Jamal knew the answers the life story of Jamal unfolds revealing his hard life growing up and trying to survive as a 'slumdog' in India.

The story line was simple and easy to follow for younger viewers but detailed and the issues so hard hitting it was enjoyable for older viewers too. The performance of the actors was so well put together and emotion filled you almost felt obliged to sympathise with the characters.
I personally thought the actors were believable and seemed highly professional. especially the young actor Ayush Mahesh Khedekar who despite the young age of 8 seemed to portray the younger Jamal perfectly.

I also thought that the camera work on the movie was innovative and creative it used different angles and levels to capture the true beauty as well as the dark slums of India. I thought the way the  director and camera crew managed to captivate the vibrant colors of India and used them to reflect the mood and atmosphere was effective and refreshing. At one point in the movie when the two boys jump off a train not only did they transform cleverly from young boys into teenagers but the way the camera rolled with them in the dust was imaginative and put a little SPIN on the idea (cheesy joke i know).
